“Eleven Dead in Israeli Raid of West Bank City: International Community Must Act to Ensure Palestinian Safety”

On Wednesday, February 22, 2023, Israeli military forces raided the northern West Bank city of Nablus, resulting in the deaths of 11 Palestinians and the injury of over 100 more.[0] These casualties include a 14-year-old boy, a 72-year-old man, and a border police officer who was stabbed by a teenager and then shot by friendly fire from a civilian security guard.[1]

The raid was met with international outcry and condemnation. The local director of Red Crescent described the event as a “massacre”. In response, the Palestinian Authority agreed to implement a US plan to restore control in Jenin and Nablus and to “start talks on resuming security coordination with Israel”.[2]

The raid brings the number of Palestinians killed by Israeli forces in the occupied territories this year to 61 people, including 13 children.[1] This number includes people shot as they attacked Israelis, militants being targeted in raids, people clashing with Israeli forces during raids, and bystanders.[1]

In response to the escalating violence, Islamic Jihad’s Al Qassam Brigade stated that “the resistance forces in the Gaza Strip are monitoring the crimes of the enemy and their patience is running out.”[0]

The Palestinian people are committed to fight for justice and freedom until the occupation ends. As the death toll rises, the international community is called to take action and ensure the safety and security of the Palestinian people.
